We support the DVSA’s Ready to Pass? campaign. Here’s how to know you’re ready for your test.
Are you ready to pass your driving test? It’s a big question, so it’s worth answering honestly before you book. That’s why we support the DVSA’s Ready to Pass? campaign. It helps learners, parents and instructors agree when someone is really ready.
On this page, you’ll find the official videos, the DVSA checklist and our own advice. You’ll also find the new rules for booking and changing your test.
The DVSA’s checklist helps you think honestly about how ready you are. First, print it and fill it in. Then go through your answers with your instructor at your next lesson.
These short videos are from the DVSA’s Ready to Pass? campaign. They’re made for phones, but they work on any screen.

Are you ready to take your driving test? The new booking rules
Being ready means you can drive safely on your own, in all kinds of traffic and conditions. Here’s how we help you get there.
We use the Total Drive app to track each learner’s progress. So you can see how you’re getting on, and we can agree what to work on next. It also means there are no surprises when we talk about booking your test.
Read the Highway Code and the official DVSA books, such as The Official DVSA Guide to Learning to Drive. They explain what the examiner expects to see. Also, keep revising road signs, because you need them on the road as well as in your theory test.
The DVSA says learners who combine private practice with their lessons are 1.5 times more likely to pass. However, talk to us first, so you practise the right things in the right way. Read private practice for learner drivers.
We give you a mock test before your real test. It follows the same format as the real thing, so you’ll see how examiners mark faults and how you cope under pressure. Then we’ll use the result to decide together whether you’re ready.
About 1 in 10 learners who fail say nerves were the main reason. So if you’re worried, tell us. One of our instructors has completed the Driving Test Nerves Specialist Workshop run by Diane Hall of L of a Way 2 Pass. Read driving test nerves: how to stay calm on the day.
The rules for booking and changing car driving tests changed in 2026. Here’s what you need to know:
So before you book, talk to us. Together, we’ll choose a date when you’re likely to be ready, so you don’t waste a change.
Our pupils take their tests at St Albans or Borehamwood. For more help, read driving test tips for St Albans and Borehamwood and what happens on the day of your driving test.
